Mercedes-AMG A45 Could Have More Power Per Liter Than McLaren Senna
The next-generation Mercedes-AMG A45 is aiming to have more than 200 horsepower per liter.
Speaking to Autocar, AMG’s Tobias Moers confirmed the next A45 will have “well over 400 bhp” from an updated version of the current 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This will actually be done without the aid of any form of electrification, which means it would have the highest horsepower per liter output of any production engine, beating out the 197 bhp per liter found in the McLaren Senna.
But before the A45 arrives, Moers said an A35 will bow, as a softer and less powerful model.

Along with the boost in horsepower, the A45 will also benefit from 20 pound-feet more torque. That should allow the hot hatch to hit 62 mph from a standstill in around four seconds flat. To handle the higher torque rating, Mercedes-AMG is also tweaking the car’s gearbox and four-wheel-drive system. Look for it to gain a nine-speed dual clutch transmission and torque vectoring.
The new A-Class is expected to be offered in North America as a sedan and if the A45 does offer over 400 hp, Audi and BMW are about to get some serious competition in the compact sedan segment.
