Audi S6 Avant Spied Testing Its New Twin Turbo 2.9L V6

The sport-oriented Audi S6 Avant has been spied undergoing cold weather testing ahead of a debut sometime later this year.

The new A6 will ride on Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform that currently serves in cars like the A5 and A5 Sportback. Compared with the standard A6, the S6 should benefit from sport-tuned suspension settings and should also receive other sport equipment such as larger brakes and wider, model specific wheels shod in stickier rubber.

Under the hood of the S6 Avant will be the same twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 found in the RS5. It makes 450 hp in the RS5, but could be detuned to around 420 hp for the milder performance offering that is the S6. We’re expecting the same eight-speed automatic transmission from the RS5 to appear in the S6, and you can expect all-wheel as standard, of course.

The Audi S6 Avant should make its debut sometime later this year – perhaps as early as March at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. We’re not expecting it to be sold in North America, but maybe Audi will throw us a bone this time around.
