GMC Sierra HD All Terrain X Brings Off-Road Goodies to Diesel Truck

What are you going on about? My 2002 GMC Envoy has 200K on the original engine and that thing runs and drives like new, and doesn't burn or leak a drop of oil. I sold that to my boyfriend* and now I daily drive a 1999 GMC Suburban that's all original except for regular maintenance items. It does need a new idler arm and pitman arm since it wanders a bit on the highway but that's pretty normal for a 90s truck. I've owned about 5 other GMs including a 7 owner 95 Chevy Suburban with 175K on it and that thing ran perfectly having been maintained awfully (very apparent)... and while I don't know for sure the drivetrain - engine/transmission/transfer case/differential seemed to be all original. In terms of newer model year trucks, I know a guy who tows horse trailers and he's very happy with his Duramax. I don't remember what year exactly but it's the 08+ body style and it has a bunch of miles and it left him stuck in a parking lot once due to some wiring issue but it's been solid otherwise. Another friend test drove 2016 2500 diesel models of the GMC Sierra, Ford F-Series, and Dodge Ram. He picked the Sierra since it drove the nicest and was the most comfortable. He's a total Ford fanboy (he owns a Ford Transit Connect and a 2000 Ford F-550 Powerstroke) and liked the look of the F250 better but he just did not find it comfortable. At one of my other jobs my boss got a 2014 Ram 1500 new and he's been back to the dealership multiple times for various little issues. The truck has never really broke but it's always being annoying. And that's a totally base model truck with as little features as possible. And I think Rams are ugly but that's just my opinion lol. I work at O'Reilly auto parts and I can tell you right know there are as many high mileage GM trucks as there are Toyotas out there. I'm not going to pretend that I'm a mechanic or even an expert on cars, but we definitely sell more GM water pumps; and Toyotas tend to start burning oil at 150-200K. I know this because customers frequently complain about it to me and ask if any of the thousand "magic" additives will help them or if they need to pick up a thicker oil because "my Toyota burns so much oil"... So, you might not like GM, but I'm not sure why. Perhaps you had a bad experience or know somebody who did, and I respect that. But you have to understand that there are so many different brands of cars out there that you can pick the one you like. That doesn't mean that a brand of car/truck you don't like is garbage because you had one lemon or something. All the best, -Michael

2 bad experience bud. A Buick and Cum Arrow. both motor issues right after the warranty (joke) expired. So yeah they are garbage vehicles. Not worth the tin they are stamped out of.

You gotta put oil in em, lol... sorry you got someone elses lemons. Maybe buy new next time rather than buying someone else's poor maintenance, is my suggestion. GM has always put out well built engines for the tech they had available and the budget they had to work with to keep them affordable. Any of the engineers will tell you they struggle with wanting to build the highest quality stuff, but the people they work for will not approve the additional cost as it impacts the ultimate end user purchase price and that has to be competitive.
