Top 5 Awesome Cars Heading to Silverstone Auctions at Salon Prive

A collection of 68 cars will cross the auction block on September 3 in Silverstone Auctions’ sale at Salon Privé.

Taking place at Blenheim Palace, the Silverstone Auctions at Salon Privé may not be as high profile as what just happened during 2016 Monterey Car Week, but there are still some fine collectibles to be had. The selection includes fantastically low-mileage classics, delivery miles modern hypercars, highly original and rare homologation specials, star cars and iconic pieces of British motoring history.

AutoGuide.com went through the lot list and picked out what we believe to be the top 5 cars to keep an eye on at this year’s auction.

With just 1,977 miles on the odometer, this is one of the lowest mileage examples of the Ferrari 550 Maranello around. Sporting a 5.5-liter V12 engine with 485 horsepower, this 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello is expected to sell between £180,000 ($235,445) and £220,000 ($287,765). Throughout its life, it has been well maintained with routine maintenance, while enjoying the comforts of dry storage. Rumor has it that it has never been driven in the rain.

Sporting 235 hp, the Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II was the German automaker’s answer to BMW’s venerable E30 M3. The model first made its debut 25 years ago at the Geneva Motor Show and legend has it that the entire limited run of 502 units were sold pre-launch. This particular example crossing the auction block is number 452 and was purchased by a collector and stored at the supplying dealer for approximately 10 years. Currently, the odometer reads a mere 885 miles and the dealer sticker still resides on the back window in pristine condition. It is estimated to sell for £180,000 ($235,445) to £220,000 ($287,765).

If you have a love for British classics, this 1959 Jaguar XK150 3.4 S Drophead Coupe is not one to miss. Estimated at between £130,000 ($170,045) and £160,000 ($209,285), it’s one of just 37 right-hand drive examples ever produced. According to the Heritage Certificate, the car was manufactured on May 29, 1959 and delivered to Henlys of London a little over three weeks later. Its most recent owner acquired the car from JD Classics, after benefiting from a thorough overhaul prior to being sold. It has a matching engine, chassis and body numbers and has covered just over 80,000 miles from new.

Headlining this year’s auction is none other than a 2016 Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster, one of just 500 produced. Expected to fetch between £480,000 ($627,855) and £520,000 ($680,175), the Aventador SV Roadster has less than 38 miles on the odometer. It is believed that although it has one registered owner, it is effectively a new car. Finished in metallic Grigio Estoque with a black and red cockpit, it’s an opportunity for those that missed out on the initial Lamborghini Aventador SV offering and as the fastest Lamborghini convertible ever built, it will likely become a collectible in years to come.
