2016 GMC Sierra Adds Features to Make Trailering Easier

Trailering with the 2016 GMC Sierra is easier than ever, thanks to new packages.

Offered as a $350 option, a new gooseneck/fifth-wheel trailering prep package is now available that features a frame-mounted hitch platform and tray that accommodates a gooseneck ball hitch or fifth-wheel hitch mounting brackets. The platform itself is hidden underneath the truck’s bed floor and the hitch can be removed when it isn’t needed, to make full use of the bed’s cargo capacity. Also included as part of the package are caps for the openings in the floor and a bed-mounted seven-way trailer wiring connection.

There is also a new gooseneck completion kit that features a 2-5/16-inch ball hitch and two chain tie-downs for $315. GMC dealers also offer CURT Manufacturing fifth-wheel hitches compatible with the factory-installed hitch platform, available in 20,000- and 25,000-pound versions for $939 and $999, respectively.

A new trailering camera system has been developed with Echomaster and features three cameras: two side-view cameras and one for the rear of the trailer. The side cameras are integrated with the trailer mirror housings to offer better vision on the sides of the truck and trailer. The rear camera is designed to be mounted to the top, rearmost edge of the trailer so it can provide a view of what’s behind the trailer when reversing. The trailering camera system is starts at $999 and is warranted by Echomaster.
