Unlike other uber-new and expensive assets – say, a wicked Gibson guitar or the latest TV – hybrid hypercars’ value continue to skyrocket, even post-purchase.

Take this stunning Alaskan Diamond White McLaren P1 that recently found a new home via Bonhams’ recent Scottsdale Auction. They managed to get a whopping $2.09 million, a lot higher than its original $1.35 million sticker price in the U.S. It set an auction record for the P1, too.

This particular P1 was special; number 371 out of 375 P1 models, it’s the final unit built for the U.S. market. The winning bidder is banking on the rare hypercar becoming a collector’s item. Until it appreciates over time, the winner can enjoy the 903-hp, twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 that makes it one of the quickest cars in existence.
