The McLaren 650S will be replaced by an all-new supercar with extreme styling in 2018.

The 650S’s successor is currently being referred to as the P14 internally. The new supercar is part of the British automaker’s plan to launch a new model every year and the replacement is expected to utilize the same carbon fiber tub and 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine currently found across the company’s lineup of sports cars. Expect power to exceed the current 641 figure to the tune of at least 660 hp to keep pace with the new Ferrari 488 GTB.

That also means the new model will come dangerously close to the 675LT’s performance of 666 hp, but considering the 675LT is limited to just 500 units, McLaren probably won’t shy away from injecting more horsepower by 2018. It is also being reported that McLaren will start with a clean slate in terms of design, with the new model serving as the foundation for future models with a new design language.

The company’s design director Frank Stephenson has already said that the P14 will be “even crazier” than the current P1. But expect certain trademark design features to stay such as the side-mounted air intakes and front bumper design. Naturally, a convertible variant will follow shortly after the debut of the coupe.
