Barracuda Nameplate Trademarked Again
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has trademarked the Barracuda nameplate again.
For years, it has been rumored that Chrysler would bring back the Barracuda nameplate to an actual model for the Dodge lineup and now the automaker has re-trademarked Barracuda for use on “Motor vehicles, namely, passenger automobiles, their structural parts, trim and badges.” Like other trademarks, this doesn’t guarantee that FCA is developing a Barracuda model; the company could just be protecting the name regardless of future use.

In late 2012, it was reported that Dodge would revive the Barracuda nameplate on an entirely new platform for the 2015 model year. Unfortunately that’s gone and passed, but the American automaker does still have a new rear-wheel-drive platform coming, so not all hope is lost. Related to the Barracuda nameplate being trademarked again, the SRT logo with the Hellcat is now officially registered and “Trackhawk” has been approved and is currently waiting on a Statement of Use from FCA. The Trackhawk nameplate is believed to be going on the Jeep Grand Cherokee equipped with a Hellcat engine.
