Next Cadillac SRX to Debut This Fall

Cadillac’s next crossover is slated to debut sometime next fall, likely during the L.A. Auto Show.

The company will probably take the opportunity to shift its bread-and-butter product to its new alpha numeric nomenclature as the XT5, aligning it with the product naming strategy that Cadillac announced late last year. The SRX became Cadillac’s best seller after it migrated from the rear-wheel drive Sigma platform in its first generation to the front-wheel drive based Theta platform that it is currently based on.

But the SRX is also one of the oldest vehicles in its segment and sales are starting to taper off. In 2014 Cadillac sold 53,578, which is a 5.6 percent decrease over 2013.

Cadillac unveiled its new CT6 large rear-wheel drive sedan during the New York Auto Show last week as a range-topping product to its current sedan portfolio. Among other powertrains, it will usher in a new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 that makes 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. While Cadillac’s current front-wheel drive based large XTS sedan won’t immediately exit the market, CEO Johan de Nysschen said it will be cancelled after a single generation.

Later this year, Cadillac will transplant its headquarters from Detroit to New York City in an effort to separate the brand from others in GM’s portfolio as it continues to fight for status as a tier one luxury brand beside BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

What does it say the world, that their #1 seller is the SRX? Dare we mention blingie Tahoes? Very sad that the ATS and CTS are not flying out the door - wish they could export these great handling cars to places where they would be appreciated as the great cars they are.
