Maserati Pares Back Production
Maserati will produce fewer cars in the coming months than it has been.
According to Federico Bellono, CGIL union leader in Turin, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has reduced the number of shifts at the automaker’s Grugliasco plant from 12 to 10. The factory currently builds the Maserati Ghibli and Quattroporte and Bellono said, “The company is predicting production of about 30,000 to 35,0000 cars at Grugliasco this year. I think it will be closer to 30,000.” The plant currently employs about 2,800 workers and FCA has reportedly told those workers that the plant will be working for three weeks out of the four up until July.

Last year, the Italian automaker saw its global sales more than double to 36,448 units (137 percent growth) with the new Ghibli accounting for 23,500 deliveries. The Quattroporte made up 9,500 units while the GranTurismo and GranCabrio sold 3,500. At the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne said, “We knew we could not keep on growing sales of the Ghibli and Quattroporte. They have to slow down and settle and that is what is happening.” So to FCA, all is going according to plan and Maserati sales are stabilizing after seeing growth in 2014.
