Jaguar has confirmed that the all-new XE will make its worldwide debut in September.

The company’s new sedan will be officially unveiled at a special event in London on September 8, 2014 before it goes on sale in Europe in 2015. The XE will be available in North America starting in 2016.

“Jaguar vehicles’ have always been renowned for a balance of precise handling and high-quality ride,” said Mike Cross, Chief Engineer of Vehicle Integrity of Jaguar. “The XE is the culmination of everything the company has learned over the years.”

The compact sports sedan from Jaguar will be built on an all-new, aluminum architecture. Last week, the company revealed details on its new Ingenium engine family, a least one of which will be offered in the XE at launch. Jaguar announced that the first volume production engine would be a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel engine, making it the first new engine to power the car. A 2.0-liter turbocharged gas engine will probably arrive later in the car’s life.

Other features in the upcoming sedan include integral link rear suspension, a new electric power assisted steering system and all surface progress control. Check back for more details on the all-new Jaguar XE when it makes its official debut September 8.

“We are on target to deliver a vehicle that dynamically outperforms our rivals,” Cross said.
