If Porsche can build an SUV, why not Jaguar?

That is no doubt the thinking behind this teaser of what the British automaker is calling the C-X17 concept, which will be revealed in full at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show later this month.

According to the British automaker, the C-X17 concept was created as a design study to introduce Jaguar’s new, highly-advanced, modular aluminum architecture. It appears by the silhouette in the teaser that the C-X17 concept will be a swoopy crossover of sorts and will show off what sort of vehicles Jaguar’s new architecture can produce in the future.

Two years ago, at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, Jaguar unveiled its C-X16 concept, which was powered by a 3.0-liter, supercharged V6 engine with 380 horsepower paired with an electric motor that added 95 horsepower and 143 lb-ft of torque. The C-X16 eventually became the F-Type in production form. With this hybrid powertrain yet to appear in a production model, a high-volume crossover would make a likely candidate, and Jaguar continues to study market demand to see if they will offer it.

Joining the C-X17 concept at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show will be the recently launched “R” performance, the XJR and XFR-S, and the F-Type.
