Cadillac will unveil the next-generation Escalade in New York City in a static debut on October 7.

The Escalade is expected to reach dealers by mid-2014, and the GM luxury automaker’s choice to debut the high-end SUV outside of an auto show likely has to do with delivery timing and conflict with other product debuts during the show season, a source from General Motors familiar with the matter said.

Cadillac will base the next Escalade on the updated Chevrolet Silverado platform. Despite adopting styling cues in line with other brand products including tall pillar LED lights, the car will maintain its traditionally boxy body form.

Previous reports suggest that the truck will be powered by both a 5.3- and 6.3-liter V8, possibly paired with an eight-speed transmission. In the past, Cadillac has said that the truck will maintain its focus on power and presence rather than focusing on improving fuel economy.
