The Jaguar Project 7 unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed could lead to other special edition Jaguars or one-offs depending on the interest generated.

While the Project 7 was designed as a homage to the Jaguar D-type as well as the brand’s seven Le Mans wins, there’s no indication that it will actually go into production. However according to unnamed sources, the project could be foreshadowing a more extreme version of the F-Type roadster.

Currently the F-Type is available with one of two supercharged engines; the V6 engine in the base model makes 340 hp, while a more powerful V6 is available in the F-Type S which makes 380 hp. A V8 is found in the top-spec F-Type making 495 hp.

In comparison, the Project 7 one-off uses a tuned version of the supercharged V8 found in the XKR-S and XJR, making 542 hp. Rumors are placing that very engine in the F-Type, potentially making 650 hp.

The source also downplayed any thoughts that the Project 7 is foreshadowing the brands return to motorsports. Instead, that the Project 7 was designed to just be a show car which expresses the brands enthusiasm and design.
