Maserati Teases New Car Before Shanghai Debut

Maserati just confirmed that it will bring a world premier to the Shanghai Auto Show, although it isn’t clear what the car is yet.

The teaser image is part of an invitation to see the car unveiled. That picture could prove to be tipping the brand’s hand a little, though. That’s because the covered car looks like a sedan, which would suggest that this is the Ghibli.

Proportions in the image above also line up logically with past spy photos of the car testing.

A Shanghai debut for the car would also make sense. The Chinese market still has a strong appetite for luxury cars, and the Ghibli will be relatively downmarket for Maserati — targeting the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class.

It will ride on a shortened version of the new Quattroporte’s platform and will likely share engines with the larger sedan, meaning a turbocharged six- and eight-cylinder engines.
