McLaren P1 Fully Exposed Before Geneva Motor Show
The McLaren P1 sat uncovered in production form today on the eve of the 2013 Geneva Motor Show beside the legendary F1 it supplants.
Boasting a 218 mph top speed, then twin-turbo, hybrid 3.8-liter V8 makes 903 hp. McLaren said from the outset that it never planned to get into a chest-beating contest with Bugatti over top speeds, instead aiming to build a world-class track machine.
That hybrid system adds 176 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque for the 903 hp overall output figure. Interestingly, it is also capable of powering the car for up to 20 kilometers (12 miles) of emissions-free travel and allows for power deliver more like a naturally-aspirated engine.

The car sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h) in under three seconds while launching from there to 124 mph (200 km/h) in under seven. Finally the car is five seconds faster to 186 mph (300 km/h) than the one-time world’s fastest car, the McLaren F1.
If this car looks identical compared to the concept shown in Paris last year, that’s because it is save for new small air ducts ahead of the front wheels to improve downforce and cooling.
At speed, the car’s massive rear wing also adjusts its angle 23 percent to reduce drag – an attribute borrowed from Formula One racing. Drivers can activate the “Drag Reduction System” via a button on the steering wheel.
Where the MP4-12C is billed as a relatively affordable supercar, the P1 is certainly not. It costs £866,000, which is roughly $1.3 million, and is only slated for a limited 375-unit production run.
