Maserati Trofeo MC World Series Returns for Third Season
The Maserati Trofeo MC World Series will be back for its third season, with the single-make Maserati race series unveiling the newest variant of its GranTurismo MC Trofeo race car.
The updated MC Trofeo race car has a more aerodynamic body than its predecessor in addition to a lighter curb weight. Under the hood is still the same 4.7-liter V8 with 444 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed sequential manual transmission, and the powertrain is essentially the same as a production GranTurismo model.
With a newer and lighter carbon fiber body, the 2012 GranTurismo MC Trofeo race car turned in lap times an average 2.5 seconds quicker than the 2011 model.
Season three of the Maserati Trofeo MC World Series will host six events worldwide, with the U.S. seeing the Maseratis coming into town at Infineon Raceway on September 23. Other stops include Spain, China, Portugal, Italy and France.
The cost of competing in the Trofeo series is around $140,000 plus the race entry and test fees. Private teams can also field their own cars for $44,500 (excluding fees) for the entire championship and $25,000 (excluding fees) for the European legs only.
