Development of the 2018 Bentley Continental GT is well underway.

Spy photographers have caught the next-generation luxury sports coupe testing on public roads for the first time. Although the spy photos aren’t crystal clear, they do preview what the new Bentley Continental GT could look like and what the British automaker has planned for it.

On the outside, its styling takes inspiration from the Exp 10 Speed 6 Concept, giving it a sportier appearance than the current model.

The 2018 Bentley Continental GT will ride on the new MSB platform that is also underpinning the new Porsche Panamera. Along with helping shed unwanted weight, sharing the platform means Bentley can take advantage of Porsche’s knowledge and experience with electrified powertrains. Rumor has it that Bentley is mulling over the possibilities of offering an all-electric sports car based on the Exp 10 Speed 6 Concept.

Set to debut late next year, expect the new Continental GT to retain its base-model 4.0-liter V8 engine, while topping the range will be a 600-horsepower W12-equipped variant. The plug-in hybrid model will join the lineup, sharing components from the Porsche Cayenne and Panamera.
