2016 Volvo XC90 Getting Recalled for Airbag Trim Panel Issue
The 2016 Volvo XC90 will be recalled in the near future for an issue with its airbag trim panel.
Although the Swedish automaker hasn’t yet issued an official stop-sale on the XC90, the company is asking its dealerships to hold customer deliveries until a fix can be implemented for a faulty airbag trim panel. In a letter sent to all North American Volvo dealerships, the company states that it has identified that the Inflatable Curtain may not inflate as intended for third-row passengers because the interior panel on the D-pillar could interfere.
For vehicles that are already on the road, Volvo is preparing a recall and will be contacting owners soon on how to have their vehicles fixed.

The company plans on modifying the design of the panel surrounding the airbag curtain to ensure the airbag inflates as intended and notes that there have been no incidents or accidents related to the issue. The company also stressed that this issue is unrelated to the Takata recall. The recall will affect the 2016 Volvo XC90 model equipped with seven seats and about 10,000 SUVs could be affected.
Volvo also added that it is not dangerous to drive the affected cars, but passengers in the third row may have less protection from the inflatable curtain.
