Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge Made Mostly of Carbon Fiber

New details were just released regarding Infiniti’s Detroit-bound concept car: the Q50 Eau Rouge.

Meant to preview the future design of high-performance Infiniti products, the Eau Rouge is lower, wider and lighter than a normal Q50. The brand said today that the roof and door profiles are the only unchanged bodywork on the car. All the other body panels have been modified for aerodynamic enhancement and are made of carbon fiber.

Infiniti worked with the Red Bull Racing F1 team on the car’s design. Changes include a carbon fiber front splitter, rear diffuser, side skirts and mirror caps and an integrated rear spoiler. The car also gets lightweight 21-inch wheels.

“The design has a number of distinctive Formula One inspired touches. In particular, the sculpted front wing assembly and the rear aerodynamic packaging take their cues from the RB9 race car,” Infiniti Executive Design Director Alfonso Albaisa said.

Nissan’s luxury sub-brand says it will reveal the car before its scheduled Detroit debut at unveil.infiniti.com, but the company will base how quickly that happens on how much its fans share the car through social media channels.

Powertrain and performance details still haven’t been revealed and the brand didn’t specify if that information would be included in the advance debut. Don’t be surprised if the car turns out to use the same drivetrain as a normal Q50, but with mild enhancements to increase its horsepower by a small margin like the IPL version of the Q60 IPL. Then again, Infiniti referred to “extreme performance” in its previous press release, so maybe this will turn out to be a legitimate sport special after all.
